Hey everyone!

This blog is going to serve as a space where I can not only share my journey to pharmacy school, but also give advice along the way!

For my first blog post, I just wanted to share with you guys a little bit about myself, how I chose pharmacy and what my goals are for this blog.

I grew up on the southwest side of Milwaukee, and attended a smaller private high school. Needless to say I was very excited to be admitted to the University of Wisconsin, a huge school, where I eventually chose to pursue a double major in Biology and Life Sciences Communications. (Added perk of the University is their football team :))

I have loved every minute of being a Badger. During my time at Wisconsin, I've been involved with many organizations, such as

HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America), Wisconsin Admission Volunteers, and Camp Kesem. I also have a job as a pharmacy technician at UW Health. Additionally, I live for Badger football Saturdays, and love to spend time at the Memorial Union Terrace. For those of you thinking about pharmacy school at Wisconsin, you should absolutely check it out during your visit! Overall, I couldn't be happier with my college choice.

You might be wondering, why do you want to be a pharmacist? How did you come about pharmacy?

I knew that I wanted to be a pharmacist pretty early on in my high school career. When I was a sophomore, we had to take career inventories for a class, and write a reflection on it. Of course, these aptitude tests were no where near accurate. (One of my suggested careers was a vegetable gardener LOL) I started to think about what I wanted to do a little bit more. I had always wanted to go into the health field, but I wasn't sure in what way. A doctor would be cool, I thought, but its a long time in school. There were many careers I researched, but none seemed to fit me.

Then I found pharmacy.

I think pharmacy is the perfect balance between patient contact and true science. In my opinion, you get the best of both worlds. You get to practice clinically, but still need to understand much of the mechanisms, and chemical reactions occurring in the body. I'm so excited to eventually be a practicing pharmacist in a hospital or clinic.

My hope for this blog is that you guys can learn along with me. As I complete my journey to pharmacy school, I hope that I can help clear up some of the questions about the process. I hope that I can give you advice you might be searching for. Lastly, I hope that I can play a role in helping you along your own journey. It has always helped me to learn from the students before me, so I hope I can be that student for all of you!

Thanks for joining me on my journey to pharmacy!

Allison
